INCommercial utility bill auditing in Indiana
Our Indiana supplier-choice guide focuses on natural gas, particularly participating NIPSCO accounts. That gas program should not be confused with a general electricity-choice market.
Indiana natural gas utilities and billing review
NIPSCO’s voluntary CHOICE program allows participating customers to purchase gas from an approved supplier while NIPSCO continues delivery. We compare the supplier agreement with the commodity charges and keep the utility’s delivery calculations separate. A supplier’s price terms are not established by the utility delivery tariff.
The NIPSCO CHOICE program; other accounts require tariff-specific review.
Put the account’s terms in context
For historical review, retain supplier enrollment records, renewals, and the statements from before and after any switch. Those dates help explain whether a changed gas charge followed the agreement or raises a billing question. Accounts outside the listed program require their own tariff and scope assessment.
Follow the charge back to the record.
A useful Indiana utility audit identifies the disputed line item, the billing dates, and the contract or tariff provision that should apply. We compare the calculation with those records and distinguish a possible error from a supported recovery claim.
A recent statement can help identify questions. A full historical review needs the records for the affected periods, with corrected bills and credits kept alongside the originals.

Records to prepare for your Indiana bill review
- A recent complete utility statement, including every page
- The service address and state for each account
- Any separate energy supplier invoices
- Supplier agreements and renewal notices
- Historical statements, payments, credits, and rebills
- Meter or interval data when relevant to the questioned charge
Keep multiple locations organized by account. We define the full scope with you before recovery work begins. See our process and standard recovery pricing for the engagement steps.
Indiana utility audit questions
Does enrolling in NIPSCO CHOICE change who delivers the gas?
No. The choice program changes the supply arrangement while NIPSCO remains the local delivery utility. A bill audit can therefore require both supplier and utility records.
Can you review past utility overpayments?
Our agreed historical review can cover up to 36 months of available records. A recoverable period depends on the account, applicable rules, contract, deadlines, and evidence. One questionable charge is not automatically a three-year refund.
What happens after I upload a bill?
The upload provides an AI-assisted preliminary screening for our team. People review the findings and follow up about records and scope. Recovery work requires a signed agreement and letter of authorization.
